In addition to its regular sailings, The Strand Cruise has recently added a series of themed cruises sailing throughout 2017 and 2018. Each departure will follow The Strand Cruise’s scheduled four-night Bagan-Mandalay itinerary, but be enhanced by the presence of professional experts hosting each voyage and presenting additional activities on board and during shore excursions designed to enrich passengers’ experience of Myanmar and its culture.

Classical music aficionados are in for a treat as artists from the Orchestre de Paris will return to The Strand Cruise in February 2018 to present a new program of scores from some of history’s most famous composers, played against a backdrop of romantic sunsets, starlit night skies and a vista of thousands of pagodas. The musicians will perform intimate concerts throughout the cruise in different locations, such as a private sandbank or on the ship’s sundeck, and be present throughout the cruise, offering passengers the unique experience of interacting with, and spending time with, these top international musicians.
9 March 2018 and 5 October 2018
The Strand’s three-night Lifestyle Cruise departures will include a wide menu of on-board and onshore sightseeing options to complement its regular excursions, including morning yoga and meditation, exploring Bagan by e-bike, and trekking to more remote temples and villages along the riverbank. Back on board, the crew will organise special themed parties each evening, from relaxed pool parties with a soundtrack provided by guest DJs, to black tie dinners and silent disco late into the night. Supplements for cabins booked on a single occupancy basis will be waived on these departures.
29 January 2018 and 23 December 2018
Being one of the youngest and most agile ships on the Ayeyarwady River, The Strand Cruise is now the first luxury cruise in Myanmar to offer special departures programmed specifically for modern families travelling with children. Should young adventurers wish to take a break from exploring ashore, they can join in special group activities laid on by the crew, leaving parents free for a few hours to visit a nearby temple or relax in the ship’s spa, while movie and games nights will be arranged which parents can join or to opt to enjoy a romantic evening meal for two. One child of up to 15 years of age can travel free on these special departures when sharing a Strand Cabin with two adults. Infant cots are available on request and there are no age restrictions on these departures.

Myanmar is a photographer’s delight, with glowing sunrises, expansive landscapes and characterful people. Professional photographer, Lucas Guardjian, joins passengers on The Strand Cruise in October to share his knowledge on how to capture this once in a lifetime experience and improve their skills as a photographer. Lucas, who has over 15 years experience as a photographer, spent three years travelling the world, including a two year journey cross-country from Paris to Bangkok, the reportage for which won him the ‘Best online multimedia travel diary’ award at the Clermont Ferrand Biennale. He will coach passengers on different styles of photography, including landscapes, food photography and portraits; tips on framing, lighting, aperture and depth of field; as well as post-production techniques. Lucas has already travelled the route of the cruise from Bagan to Mandalay and identified the best times to be in each location to capture the best light, for example, for sunrise over Bagan.
Further themed cruises, including a second culinary cruise lead by the Strand’s executive chef, Christian Martena, will be announced as they are confirmed.
